Obituary of Wesley Wellington Gosnell

Gosnell, Wesley Wellington - of Chatham, passed away October 10, 2010 at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital in Windsor at the age of 88. Born on January 13, 1922 to Alonzo and Katherine (Enright) Gosnell. Loving husband to Viola Ruth (Smith) Gosnell for 61 years. Devoted father to Rosalyn and Richard Russell, Elizabeth Gosnell and Doug Vukovic, Richard and Kym Gosnell, and Shelley Gosnell. Proud grandfather to Kelly Russell and Gregory Guy, Susan Russell and Michael Richmond, April Russell, Tara Vukovic, Ashley Vukovic and Scott Corcoran, Lyrissa Seney and Doug Reek, Evann Seney and Lisa Long. Great-grandfather to Rowan and Natalie Guy, Hunter and Alora Dodds, Taryn and Addyson Seney. Last surviving member of his family, predeceased by Walter and Kay Gosnell, Rita Robbins (Earl), Pearl Davidson (Neil), Della Carr (Thomas), Margaret Oliphant (Edward), Norma Myers (Harold), Bertha Jeffrey (Clarence), Eva Gosnell, Lyla MacDougall (Glen). Wes worked at International Harvester for 42 years retiring in 1981 as Product Quality Manager. He served in RCAF 1940-1945 (WWII) as armourer, receiving his Pilot’s Wings at Claresholm, AB. Charter member of Sprucedale United Church, serving on many church boards and a long time member of the choir and Friendship Club. Member of Branch #28 Legion. Served on Planning Board at Chatham City Hall. Very involved with Barbershop Chorus and sang lead in Canadian Southernaires Quartette. He and his wife travelled extensively in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Scandanavia, Russia, and China. Built and enjoyed family cottage at Port Loring, ON. He was a superb artist and wood craftsman. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham on Thursday October 14, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Sprucedale United Church, 493 Victoria Ave, Chatham on Friday, October 15 at 11:00 am with Pat Miliken officiating.
