Obituary of George Wilmot Lake

Lake: George Wilmot, A resident of Chatham and formerly of Grand Bend, George Lake passed away with his family at his side on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Wallaceburg Campus at the age of 94. He was born in Georgina Township, York County and was the son of the late Wilmot J. and Martha L. (nee Sugden) Lake. Beloved husband of the late Victoria May (nee Swartz) (1995). Dear father to Wilmot (Shirley) Lake of California, Pennie (Terry) Stitch of Chatham, Richard (Dory) Lake of California. Proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Dear brother to Howard (Viva) Lake of Kitchener. He is predeceased by his sister Blanche Sellars and brother Gerald Lake. George was a retired employee of the Bank of Nova Scotia with over 43 years of service. He also was a Veteran of the Second World War serving his country overseas. Family was the cornerstone of George’s life. He especially enjoyed spending time with the youngest members of his family-his grandchildren and their children. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St. Chatham on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Royal Canadian Legion Service 7:00 p.m. Sunday. A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Terry Stitch officiating. Interment to follow, on Tuesday, at the Pinery Cemetery; Grand Bend, Ontario. As your expression of sympathy, memorial donations to honour George’s life can be made to the Alzheimer Society and would be appreciated by his family.
