Obituary of Emilio Cavacas

CAVACAS: Emilio Augusto. In Richmond Hill on Monday, May 9, 2011, Emilio Cavacas passed away at the age of 87. Born in Urros, Portugal, son of the late Joao and Maria (Poinho) Cavacas. Beloved husband of the late Cristina (Rodrigues) Cavacas (1991). Dear father of Nelson Cavacas and his wife Anabela of Chatham, Mary Cavacas of Richmond Hill, and Armand Cavacas of London. Grandfather of Amanda, Alexandra, Owen, Fernanda, Christopher, and Kaitlyn. Brother of Manuel Cavacas of Chatham, Julio and Lourdes Cavacas of Toronto, Bemvinda and Antonio Dinis of Mississauga, and the late Ilidio Cavacas, and Mario Cavacas. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Cavacas came to Canada in 1959 and first settled in Barrie. He first worked on the Algoma Central Railway. He moved to Toronto in 1965, and finally to Chatham in 1969. He sponsored several families as they moved their families to Canada. He was a very enthusiastic member of the Liberal Party of Canada, and a member of the Portuguese-Canadian Social Club, Chatham. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham on Thursday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and on Friday from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Parish Prayers at the Funeral Home on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 52 Croydon St., Chatham on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Daniel Bombardier the celebrant. Interment in St. Anthony Cemetery, Chatham. Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
