Obituary of Jacob Archibald Johnston

Johnston: Jacob Archibald, A resident of Chatham, Jacob Johnston passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance-Sydenham Campus on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the age of 82. He was born in Chatham and was the son of the late Archibald & Marguerite (nee Labombard) Johnston. Son-in-law of the late Henry and Dorothy Broadhurst. Loving husband of 60 years to Margaret (nee Broadhurst) Johnston. Dear father to John and Rose Marie Johnston of Chatham, Karen and the late Ernst (2003) Lauterbach also of Chatham. Proud grandfather to Byron and Lisa Johnston, Chad Lauterbach and Chelsy Martin, Brandon and Amy Johnston, Scott Lauterbach. Great-grandfather to Nevia, Mia and Logan Johnston. Dear brother to Douglas and Phyllis Johnston, David and Joan Johnston. Predeceased by his sister Josephine and her husband Art LaForge. Brother-in-law to Olive Sinclair and her late husband Pat. Jacob will also be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister’s-in-law Kathleen Hopps and her husband Leslie, Marjorie Vermeulen and her husband Louis, Dorothy Knoblauch and her husband Vern. Jacob was retired employee of Rockwell in Chatham with over 32 years of service, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #28 and a past member of the Moose Lodge. In his retirement, Jacob took great pleasure in watching his grandchildren play sports. He also enjoyed spending time in his backyard and fishing when he could. Family and friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St. Chatham on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Kristen Oliver officiating. Interment to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Memorial donations to honour Jacob’s life can be made to the Alzheimer Society and would be appreciated by the family.
