Obituary of Muriel Montrose
Muriel Montrose passed away peacefully at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario on July 11th, 2011. Her son Robert remained at her side and many other family members held her close in their hearts. Muriel was born January 9th, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan to Beulah and Stuart Smith. She was raised in Windsor, Ontario. As a young woman, Muriel worked in the Bank of Montreal. After World War II, she met Al Montrose. He had served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in England during the war. They were married in 1946 and lived a full life together till Al's sudden death in 1990. They were posted to a number of locations in Quebec, New Brunswick and even New York state as they raised their family. After Al's retirement from the Air Force they bought a home in Ajax, Ontario. Later, they moved to the Bothwell area to be near Muriel's parents and eventually settled in Chatham. Muriel is survived by her sons Richard and Robert, her daughter, Patricia and son-in-law, Kendal West, and her grandchildren Ben, Bill, and Annie Montrose and Colin West.She was preceded in death by her husband Al, her sister Gwendolyn Cowan, and her son, James. Muriel was an energetic, fun-loving and positive person. She and Al enjoyed travel and made several trips to England and other destinations in Europe. After Al's death, Muriel frequently visited her sons in Ontario and Quebec and her daughter in San Diego. She accompanied the West family on a trip along the California coast to San Francisco and one to Las Vegas. Muriel was an avid golfer. She continued to play till she was in her 80's, and celebrated playing more than 100 games one season. She also loved music, played the piano daily and enjoyed the Chatham concert season. She played bridge and loved to entertain.Muriel will be lovingly remembered as a gentle and sweet person who went out of her way to do good deeds for others and who never spoke an unkind word. She frequently visited the sick and the elderly and she always remembered birthdays and other special occasions. She was a loving and caring daughter, a dear friend to many and a devoted wife and mother. We will miss her deeply, but will always treasure our many fond memories.A visitation will be held at the McKinlay Funeral Home on Saturday, August 13th, 2011 from 10:00 am till 12:00 pm.
