Obituary of Alve Merle Marlatt

MARLATT: Alve Merle – A resident of Blenheim, Alve Marlatt passed away at his residence with his loving wife of 69 years by his side on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at the age of 92. Born at 4 Rod Rd., Raleigh Township, on April 4, 1919, Alve was the son of the late George and Carrie (Thomas) Marlatt. Alve is predeceased by his 7 brothers, Vern, Roy, Gordon, Carlyle, George, Guy and Delbert Marlatt and his two sisters Alta Proudy Miller and Myrtle Mahon. Alve married Jean Chatterton on April 24, 1942. With her, he had two sons. His eldest son Delbert, of Markham, married Nansi McCaul. They gave Alve the gift of three grandchildren, Megan Huppke (Derek) of Markham (parents of Liam, Ryan and Michael), David Marlatt (Diane nee Watson) of Markham (parents of Laura and Owen) and Craig Marlatt (Jessica nee Apps) of Ajax (parents of James and Kathryn). Alve’s youngest son Doug, of Blenheim, married Ruby McKean. They blessed Alve with two grandchildren, Scott Marlatt (Jenny nee Northan) of Stayner (parents of Hannah) and Mandy Marlatt (Chuck MacLennan) of Brampton (parents of Kaylee). Alve will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, and extended family as well as the community at large for the 40 years he served as a rural mail carrier and the 28 years he worked as a school bus driver. Not afraid of a hard day’s work, Alve also farmed for 25 years. The Marlatt Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 141 Park Street, Blenheim on Tuesday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. David Fuller officiating. Interment to follow at Pardoville Cemetery. Donations made in memory of Alve to the Canadian Lung Association or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
