Obituary of Anthony Callens

CALLENS: Anthony ‘Tony” Joseph. A residence of Chatham, Tony Callens died peacefully at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Monday September 19, 2011 at the age of 76. Born in West Flanders, Belgium on July 13, 1935, he immigrated to Canada with his late parents Arthur & Yvonne Callens, and his sister Georgette in May of 1950. Tony was an employee of Eaton Springs from 1970-2000. He was an avid hunter in his younger years, and enjoyed dancing, travelling, fishing, and gardening. Tony was a longtime member of St. Ursula’s Church, a volunteer reader and Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Prayer Group in Pain Court since 1994, and also volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul. Tony fought liver cancer for 14 months with unwavering faith, courage, hope, and optimism. Dearly beloved husband of Elaine Robertson-Callens. Loving father of Diane & Dan Gagner, Rose & Robert McClymont, Allen Callens, Gary Callens and remembered by their mother Connie McIntyre. Cherished grandfather of Branton Gagner, Jason & Nancy McClymont, Katie & Adam McClymont-Lagerwerf, Nathan Callens, Tristan Callens, and Sabrina & Jordan Matteis. Dear brother of Georgette & Gerry Kok. Caring step-father of Dave & Cheryle Arnold, Elizabeth Crosby, Susan Peck, and Derek & Denise Robertson. Predeceased by his wife Madeline Callens in 2007, and fondly remembered by her children Carol & Dan, Debbie & Paul, Elaine, Colleen, and their families. Special thanks to Bayshore Home Health (Claire) and to the nurses and staff at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance-Continuing Care for their care and compassion. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Wednesday 6:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ursula’s Catholic Church, 205 Tweedsmuir Avenue West on Thursday September 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Jack Hurley celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Donations in memory of Tony to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
