GRIFFITH-FISHER: Karen L. – A resident of Chatham, Karen Griffith-Fisher passed away at Riverview Gardens on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at the age of 97. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Idris Griffith (1976) and the late Lester Fisher (1997). Loving mother of the late Geraint Griffith (1993) and his wife Annie of Chatham, Margaret Bohannan and her husband Robert of Arizona, Honor Griffith and her husband George of Salt Spring Island, B.C. and Michael Griffith of Arizona. Step-mother to John Fisher of Rodney. Proud mumgie to three grandchildren, Rev. David Griffith (Lucy) of Nairobi, Kenya, Peter Griffith (Eva) of Taiwan and Jan Griffith (Ron) of Seattle and four great-grandchildren, Sam, Madeline, Sarah and Rebecca. Karen had met her first husband, Dr. Idris Griffith, through the Oxford Group during World War II. He was a doctor in the Medical Corp., and she was an actress. She worked alongside Idris at the Southwest Regional Centre for many years, and helped him found the Children’s Psychiatric Research Institute. She also worked in London, Ontario as a social worker at the Children’s Aid Society and was a member of St. Paul’s Congregational Church. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Monday, January 2, 2011 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Margaret Moriyama officiating. Interment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Donations made in memory of Karen to St. Paul’s Congregational Church – Esther School would be appreciated.
