Obituary of Helen Smith

SMITH: Helen Agnes (nee Mack). A resident of Chatham, Helen Smith passed away with family at her side at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the age of 97. Born in Toronto, Helen was the daughter of the late Harry and Katherine (Phillips) Mack. Beloved wife of 47 years to the late Everett L. Smith (1993). Loving mother of Rev. Joan Smith of South River, Robert Smith (Lorraine) of Corunna, Donald Smith (Andrea) of Montreal and Lynda Smith of Chatham. Proud grandmother of Jeffrey Smith of Montreal. Predeceased by infant son Bruce Douglas Smith and by infant granddaughter Evelyn Laura Smith. Also predeceased by her sister Dorothy Crockford, her brother Harold Mack and her twin sister Anna Stubberfield. Dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Helen was a woman of deep faith who held her family above all else. She was a member of St. Paul’s Congregational Church and thoroughly enjoyed many of the activities there. She also enjoyed playing the piano, going for drives, square dancing and was reputed as the “Family Scrabble Champion”. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Sunday, April 1, 2012 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Margaret Moriyama officiating. Interment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. Donations made in memory of Helen to the St Paul’s Congregational Church General Fund, the Children’s Aid Society or the O.S.P.C.A.
