Obituary of Eleanor Ruth Smith

SMITH: Eleanor Ruth (nee Early) – A resident of Morpeth, Eleanor Smith passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Monday, April 30, 2012 in her 82nd year. Born in Morpeth, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Vernon “Jimmie” and Hazel (Simpson) Early. Beloved wife of the late Harvey Edgar Smith (2002). Loving mother of Sonia Simpson (John) of Ridgetown, Dale Smith (Patty) of Ridgetown and Laurie Bateman (Bill) of Highgate. Predeceased by her daughter Cheryl Scafe (2003) and her late husband Jim. Proud grandmother of Chris Simpson (Heather), Jamie Simpson (Cindy), Michelle Frost (Joel), Jenn Smith (fiancé Ryan), Kim Smith (fiancé Tyson), Nick Bateman and Lisa Bateman. Great-grandmother to Celestia, Josh and Amelia Simpson, Callum and Bryson Frost and Brittany and Meredith Goldhawk. Dear sister to Audrey Walters of Ridgetown and predeceased by her brothers-in-law Doug Kearney and Albert Walters. Eleanor will be remembered for her generous spirit and by the numerous doilies and dishcloths she enjoyed crocheting for family, friends and loved ones. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown on Thursday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at New Scotland United Church, 11643 New Scotland Line, Blenheim at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012 with Rev. Wanda Burse officiating. Interment to follow at Morpeth Cemetery. Donations made in memory of Eleanor to the New Scotland United Church or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
