Obituary of Nina Hatsuye Tsukayama

TSUKAYAMA, Nina Hatsuye: It is with deep sorrow that Nina’s family announce her passing at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance after a lengthy, hard-fought battle. Having celebrated her 73rd birthday on June 28th, Nina finally succumbed to her ailments on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. She is survived by her younger siblings, Bob (Bev) of Southfield, MI, Joy of Chatham, Rose (Dennis) Chepesiuk of Burlington, Fred of Toronto, Janice of Brantford and Debbie of Victoria, BC. Also one-of-a-kind niece, Robyn Tsukayama of Boston, MA, Auntie Ryuko & Uncle Mori Higa of Oakville and cousins, Verne (Wanda) Nishizaki & Kyle of Chatham, Maureen (David) Jenkins, Evan & Maggie of Belmont and David (Carol) Higa, Jamison, Jeremy and Holly of Oakville. Predeceased by parents, Yoshiyasu (Joe) & Yasuye (Rosie), aunts Lil (Archie) Shimoda and Marion (Jack) Nishizaki. Nina spent her working years as a Medical Secretary first at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chatham, then at Victoria Hospital in London. Nina will be remembered as a caring and generous big sister or perpetual babysitter who loved to bowl and travel to exotic locales. As an avid sports fan, Nina’s favourite in later years was baseball which she followed with rabid enthusiasm. According to Nina’s wishes, she will be cremated and returned to the land of her birth, British Columbia. All are welcome at a Memorial Service to be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday July 14, 2012 at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham.
