Obituary of Frances Louise Crummer

CRUMMER, Frances Louise: Peacefully at the CKHA on Thursday, July 26th Frances Louise Crummer beloved daughter of the late Richard and Ida Bevan. Predeceased by sisters Marie Wing, Dorothy and Elaine Bevan. Survived by sister Betty Carruthers of Chatham. Fran was born in Calgary May 06, 1916 moving to Chatham in the early 1920s. She graduated from Brescia College UWO in 1937. In 1940 she married the love of her life Keith Crummer (1990). She is survived by son Dr Richard Crummer (Dr Madeleine and granddaughter Ariane), daughter Diane Teetzel (Jay, granddaughter Dr Jennifer MacKinnon (Dr Peter and Daniel, Brooke, Kirby)), grandson Arnie McFalls (Elena and Estella, Cameron), daughter Jane Parry (Jack, granddaughters Dr Andrea Belanger (Julian and Zara, Quincy, Daphne)) and Erica Parry, grandsons Trevor and Kyle Parry, daughter Joan Crummer Rolland (Keith and grandson Keith Jr.), step grandchildren Paul Teetzel (Delynne and Alie, Emily, Hannah), Ann DeBono (Norman and Celia, Theo, Julian), Jeff Teetzel (Wendy and Faith, Alicia, Marissa), Jon Teetzel (Danielle and Caden, Madison). Predeceased by sons Peter and Paul (1953). She also leaves many nieces and nephews. As well, she leaves two beloved cousins, Georgette Testard and Jeanne Capiomont of Paris, France and their families. A woman of great faith, she served in many capacities at Blessed Sacrament Church and School as well as the London Diocese Synod. Fran was president and an active member for 40 years of The May Court Club. She was a charter member and one of only two Honourary members of Maple City Country Club. During the 1960’s she was instrumental in the inauguration of the Junior Golf Programme at Maple City. She was awarded special recognition by the OLGA for her contributions to golf in the province. As well, she chaired or served on the boards of Mental Health Kent, Thames Gallery, Thames Art Centre and Riverside Park Neighbourhood Association. She was most proud of her work with war veterans across Canada assisting them in their attempts to receive pensions. As an expert on veteran affairs, she spoke before a Senate sub-committee in 1995 on behalf of all veterans. In 2005 she was named the Senior of the Year by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. Because of her accomplishments in athletics, particularly golf, Fran will be inducted into the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame in September in the Athlete - Legend category. Our Dad, a Hall of Fame member himself, lamented until the day he died that he never once beat Fran at a game of golf. Friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham on Friday, August 3 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A eulogy will be delivered at 9:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Saturday, August 4, 2012 followed by the celebration of Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Daniel Bombardier as celebrant. Private family interment in St. Anthony Cemetery, Chatham will take place Saturday afternoon.
