Obituary of John Cumming

CUMMING: John Douglas. A resident of Ridgetown and formerly R.R.#2 Blenheim passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in his 95th year. Born in Chatham, son of the late Herbert and Grace (Walker) Cumming. Beloved husband of the late Ruth (MacGregor) Cumming (2006). Dear father of Pam and John LeGros of R.R.#1 Blenheim, and Peter and Nancy Cumming of R.R.#2 Blenheim. Grandfather of Peter and Heather LeGros, Larissa LeGros-Vellinga and David Vellinga, Quinn Cumming, and Kendall Cumming. Great-grandfather of Talon John Vellinga. Brother of the late Dorothy Cumming. Brother-in-law of Belle MacGregor of Sarnia and her late husband Don, and the late Lt. Col. Carmen Darling and Joyce Darling, and Murray and Carol Balfour. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. John was a Pilot and Navigator in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1939-1945 and served overseas in Britain. He was a Steward and Elder of the former Guilds United Church and Supt. of Sunday School. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Br. #185 Blenheim, Past President of the Kinsmen Club, Past-President of the Blenheim Rotary Club, Director of the Seed Corn Marketing Board for 19 years, member of the Rondeau Bay Conservation Corp., member of Sinclair Bush Heritage Club, former Director of the Legion Villa, and Founding Member of the Blenheim District Freedom Library & Museum. He was also inducted into the Kent County Agricultural Hall of Fame in 1983. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 141 Park Street, Blenheim on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Legion Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, November 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bill Terris officiating. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim. Donations to the Blenheim District Freedom Library & Museum or charity of choice would be appreciated.
