Obituary of Bernard Veldboom

VELDBOOM: Bernard (Bernie). Following a longtime battle with cancer, the Lord called Bernard (Bernie) Veldboom Home on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the age of 82. Born in Aalten, the Netherlands, son of the late Bernard and Mina (Reussink) Veldboom. Beloved husband of Irene (Postma) Veldboom, in their 58th year of marriage. Dear father of Hettie Rossini and her husband Rory of Chatham, Joan Verburg and her husband Dr. Adrian of Chatham, Bernie Veldboom and his wife Susan of Invermere, B.C., Richard Veldboom and his wife Julie of Chatham, Diane Clements and her husband Todd of Chatham, and Edward Veldboom and his wife Michelle of Orillia. Grandfather of 18 and great-grandfather of 8. Brother of Willen and Leida Veldboom of Chatham, Grada and Mike Louwerse of Chatham, Arnold and Jenny Veldboom of Chatham, John and Rita Veldboom of Chatham, the late Johan Veldboom (1991) and his wife Alie of Beilen, The Netherlands, and the late Arnold Veldboom (1926). Brother-in-law of Grace and Dick Kloostra, Fred and Alice Postma, Hank and Frances Postma, John and Pauline Postma, Andy and Jenny Postma, Richard and Marlene Postma, Mike Postma, Mark and Sena Postma, Andy Hoekstra, and the late and Margaret Hoekstra, and Dick and Alie Postma. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Special friend of Johan Terhorst. Bernie had served as an Elder at First Christian Reformed Church, and volunteered with the Cadets, Friendship Club, and Bibles For Missions. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham on Thursday from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at First Christian Reformed Church, 25 Tweedsmuir Ave. E., Chatham on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jack Kerkhof officiating. Interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
