Obituary of Henry Engelmundus M. Emmink

EMMINK: Henry Engelmundus M. – It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Henry Engelmundus Emmink, who died at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Sydenham Campus on Sunday, July 7, 2013, passing after a brief respiratory struggle. Henry was a long term resident of Chatham. He was born in Egmond Binnen, The Netherlands. Henry was a high school graduate in the Netherlands, working in construction for a short time. Between 1945-1950, Henry served in the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army military campaign, building highways that, years later, he would drive transport trucks on. From 1954 – 55, Henry worked in the sugar house on a farm outside of Wallaceburg blocking beets. His passion for driving came to fruition when he bought his own truck and joined Auto Haulaway, where he dutifully worked until his retirement. In 1987, and again in 1990, Henry was awarded the Certificate of Achievement by the Teamsters Join Council No.52. In 1989, Auto Haulaway recognized Henry with the Diamond Plateau in their new service awards program. This award recognizes years of dedication and effort on behalf of Auto Haulaway. The Landstar Ranger’s Safe Driving Award program commended Henry for his safe driving achievement stating he “demonstrates a level of professionalism second to none in the transport industry”. He also enjoyed the weekly friendship and camaraderie with friends playing his favourite card game, Pepper. Henry is the beloved husband of the late Beverly Anne Stoner (2010). He will be sadly missed by his family: John and Brenda Bechard of Pain Court, Casey and Jeff Renaud of Jeanette’s Creek, Shawn and Shelley Bechard of Pain Court, Jim and Jackie Rowe of Exeter, Shannon and Laurie Hrudka of Exeter, Jeremy and Heather Hrudka of Exeter, Lisa and Derrick Brown of Hensall, Shelly and Ian Parker of Sarnia, Randy and Sasha Stoner of Chatham, Brandy Stoner (James) of Sarnia, Doug and Lorraine Charron of Wallaceburg and many great-grandchildren. Also missed by Marie Delaney. In Holland, Henry is mourned by his dear brother Joop, married to Janny, dear sister Ria, married to Karl Streutjes and predeceased by his beloved brothers Herman, Jan and Cor. He is predeceased by his parents Maria and Johannes. As per Henry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Donations made in memory of Henry to the Lung Association would be appreciated.
