Obituary of Bruce Edward Henderson

HENDERSON: Bruce Edward A resident of Chatham, Bruce Henderson, passed away at the Riverview Gardens Nursing Home on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the age of 93. Born in Harwich Township, son of the late Lena May (Henness) and James Henderson. Beloved husband of the late Ila A. (Arcouiet) Henderson (1997). Dear brother of Hubert Henderson and his wife Terri of Toronto. Predeceased by 2 brothers, Lorne and Burville Henderson and 2 sisters Marion and Mildred Callow. Bruce served in WWII with the R.C.A.F. as an airline mechanic. He was the former owner/operator of Bruce Henderson Motors and retired in 1982 as a foreman for the International Harvester. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #28; two-time Past President of Wing #411 Air Force Club of Chatham; Charter member and past President of the Chatham Power Squadron having served as Deputy District Commander for this area. He was also Past President of the Chatham Garage Operators Association, and was instrumental in organizing and implementing a “Safety Lane” Program in Chatham. Also, an active member of the Kent County Apprenticeship Board and charter member of the Chatham Toastmasters club. Bruce was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham on Sunday August 11, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. followed by a Legion Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m.. The Funeral Service will be conducted at the Funeral Home on Monday August 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.
