Obituary of John Matthew

MATTHEW, John A resident of Chatham, John Matthew Sr., passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the age of 76. Born in Harwich Township, son of the late Harry & May Matthew. Beloved husband for 56 years to Margaret Matthew (Zemnicky). Cherished father to John & Karrie Matthew, Viki Scarpone & Beryle MacIntyre, and Sandy & Joan Matthew. Grandfather to Mark, Stephanie, Hilary, Rachael, Damian, two special grandsons, and great-grandfather to Max & Tye. Brother to Alice Pelltier and her husband the late James, Mary Hill and her husband the late Art, the late Edmund Matthew and his wife Marlene, Hilda Myers, Phyllis & Bob Castle. Brother-in-law to Betty Adam and her husband the late Mike, George & Earla Zemmicky, the late Helen & Elmer Monminie, the late Frank Zemmicky and his wife Marlene. Missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his in-laws George & Cecile Zemnicky. John retired from Navistar after 30 years of service. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Boston Bruins Fan. John refereed hockey, umpired baseball, was a supervisor instructor for hockey, and a former Scout Leader. Family to receive friends at the Funeral Home 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.
