Obituary of Jean Verbeek

VERBEEK: Jean (nee Wielhouwer) - A resident of Ridgetown, and formerly of Orford Township, Jean Verbeek passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the age of 77. Born in The Hague, The Netherlands, Jean was the daughter of the late Eliza and Lutina (van Dorsten) Wielhouwer. At the age of 13, Jean immigrated with her family to Mull. Beloved wife of 54 years to Dick Verbeek. Loving mother of Ron and Grace Verbeek of Clearville, Brenda and Ken Bosman of Dresden and Jacqueline and Jeff D’Hondt of Clachan. Proud grandmother of Michelle VanderSpek (Derek), Keshia Mast (Brandon), Daniel Verbeek (Helena Taminga), Graham Bosman, Olivia Bosman, Nevin D’Hondt, Josh D’Hondt and Simone D’Hondt. Survived by her brothers Adrian Wielhouwer (Gertie) of Owen Sound and Eli Wielhouwer (Dorothy) of St Thomas. Predeceased by her siblings, Audrey DeVoogd (Cees), Kathleen Verburg (Harry), Alex Wielhouwer, Lucille Sjaarda. Sister-in-law to Joanne Wielhouwer and Ken Sjaarda. Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Jean was active at the Blenheim Christian Reformed Church, and volunteered at the Vacation Bible School and the Calvinettes. Family will receive friends at the Blenheim Christian Reformed Church. 286 Chatham St. South, Blenheim, on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. & 6:00 – 8:00p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Blenheim Christian Reformed Church at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014 with Pastor Tim Luimes officiating. A private family burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Ridgetown. Donations in memory of Jean to the Blenheim Christian Reformed Church Library, as she was an avid reader.
