Obituary of Lloyd George Apthorp

Apthorp Lloyd George, a resident of Chatham. Lloyd George Apthorp, in his 88th year, departed this earth on June 8, 2014 to be welcomed in Heaven by the Lord he had faithfully served all of his life. Born in Raleigh Township, son of Harmon & Beatrice (Illman) Apthorp. Beloved husband of 67 years to Ruby (Bebington) Apthorp. Father of Marlene Gordon (Don) of Irwin, Ohio, Kathryn Eldridge of Chatham, and Allan (Loretta) Apthorp of Calgary, AB. He was the chosen father of Tim Steele of Whitecourt, AB, Nolan Ripley (Leora) of Ottawa, and Phyllis Payne of Chatham. Devoted grandfather of 14, great grandfather of 27 and great great grandfather of 2. Lloyd is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Harry and Virginia Apthorp, granddaughter Jamie Gordon, and great granddaughters Serenity Eldridge and Rosemary Gordon. Lovingly remembered by special nieces and nephews – Dan (Nettie) Apthorp, Ken (Vicky) Apthorp, Wendy Apthorp and Patricia Apthorp. Lloyd was employed by Jackson’s Bakery from the horse and buggy days until its close and then moved to Eaton Yale where he worked until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Evangel Community Church as well as an active member of the Gideon Bible Society. Lloyd spent many years as a foster parent, along with his wife, Ruby. Many thanks to the caring staff at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance whose care and compassion helped him through his final battle with cancer. Also thanks to his many friends and family who supported his family with prayers & hymns as we said good-bye. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street on Tuesday June 10, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Evangel Community Church, 76 Sandys Street, Chatham on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Bill Pipke officiating. Interment Pardoville-Union Cemetery, Raleigh Township. Donations to the Gideon Bible Society would be appreciated.
