Obituary of George Vallance Aitken

Aitken: George Vallance a resident of Chatham. George Aitken passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the London Health Sciences Center, Victoria Campus on Tuesday April 7, 2015 at the age of 84. Born in Toronto, son of the late John and Hannah (Buchan) Aitken. Beloved husband of 60 years to Doreen (nee McKinnon) Aitken. Dear father of Randy (Paula) Aitken of Chatham, Tim (Janet) Aitken of Blenheim, Gary (Mary) Aitken of Blenheim, and Linda (Tom) Pridding of London. Grandfather of Amy, Joe (Jen), John, Marcie, Kaylin, Craig, Riley, Jade,Cullen, Corey, Alyssa & Cameron and pre-deceased by his great-granddaughter Raya Aitken (2014). George was an employee with Chatham Hydro for 32 years, he had a long standing association with the Chatham Junior & Senior Maroons; was the founding father of the Chatham Oldtimers and the Chatham Antiques. He was a member of the Chatham Maroons & the Galt Terriers Allan Cup champions and the Stratford Indian Allan Cup finalists. Friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham on Thursday April 9, 2015 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and Friday April 10 from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. Vigil Prayers will be offered at the Funeral Home on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Family words of remembrance will be offered at St. Ursula’s Catholic Church, Tweedsmuir Ave.,W., Chatham on Saturday April 11 at 10:40 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Matt Kucharski celebrant. Cremation with Interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery at a late date. Donations in memory of George to the Chatham-Kent Hospice or the Kent Minor Hockey Association (to assist the youth) would be appreciated.
