Obituary of Joseph J. Padelt

PADELT: Rev. Joseph J. - Passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at the age of 89. He was born in Detroit, MI, on March 6, 1926. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon graduating from the University of Detroit in 1950, he worked for the next four years at his family's wholesale business in the Eastern Market in Detroit. Father took his theological studies at St. Peter's Seminary in London, Ontario. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 28, 1960. He celebrated his first mass in his home parish, Our Lady Star of the Sea, Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan. He was Associate Pastor at Holy Cross Parish, London; Immaculate Conception Parish, Stratford; and Sacred Heart Parish, Windsor. He was Pastor at St. Benedict's Church, Sarnia and Blessed Sacrament Church, Chatham. Father is survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Vigil Prayers will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 145 Victoria Ave, Chatham on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015 with Bishop Joe Dabrowski celebrant. A private interment will be held at the family plot in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Food for Children and can be sent to the funeral home.
