Obituary of Murray D.W. Tuck

A resident of Grande Pointe, Murray D.W. Tuck, B.A., J.P. died on Friday, December 16, 2005 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance in his 78th year. Born in Chatham, son of the late Lorne H. and Florence A. (Warwick) Tuck. Beloved husband of Dora M. (Bourdeau) Tuck. Loving father of David H. Tuck of Lakeshore. Brother of Harold and Barbara Tuck and Larry and Mary Tuck, all of Chatham and the late Jean Rose and Shirley Anne Van Gassen. Brother-in-law of Allan Rose and Roger Van Gassen, both of London. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Murray was educated in the Chatham Schools and the University of Windsor. He served his wartime service with the Veteran's Guard of Canada as Guard in German Prisoner of War Camps. Following the war, he worked with electrical and mechanical engineers and was the manager of Warwick Lumber Company, Grande Pointe for many years. Murray also worked with the Ontario Courts of Justice as Baliff, Clerk and Justice of the Peace, retiring in 1993. An ardent sportsman, he was a licensed Commercial Pilot, Glider Pilot and Parachutist. A big game hunter, and fisherman, his boat the Friar Tuck was well known in Lake Erie. Murray served on Dover Township Municipal Council for 3 years and was the President of Regional Development Council for one year. A longtime member of the Kent Club, Chatham, Director of the Dover Rod and Gun Club and Branch #28 Royal Canadian Legion. A licensed Archaeologist, he discovered and reported many new sites in Kent County. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham, on Monday from 2:00-4:30 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Service at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 from the Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Louis Rivard officiating. Interment, St. Philippe's Cemetery, Grande Pointe. Donations, made by cheque, to Heart and Stroke Foundation appreciated.
