VEREECKEN: Theodore Cornelius "Theo" -
A resident of Ridgetown and formerly of Muirkirk, Theo Vereecken passed away at The Village on the Ridge, Ridgetown on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the age of 92.
Born in Lamswaarde, The Netherlands, Theo was the son of the late Rudolf and Elodie (Michielsen) Vereecken.
Theo immigrated from The Netherlands in 1948, living out west for a few years before going back to The Netherlands to marry Evelyn DeWaal in 1952. At that time they settled on the home farm to raise their four children.
After 51 years of marriage, Theo was predeceased by his beloved wife Evelyn in 2003.
Loving father of Mary Lou Kearney (Jim) of Chatham, Lia Sheehan (Ron) of Acton, the late Rudy Vereecken (2012) (Diana) of the home farm in Muirkirk and Christine Hart (Gordon) of Dartmouth, NS.
Cherished Opa of Alison and Kevin Mills (Jacob, Lucas, Madeline), Adam (Carly Griffith) Kearney, A.J. and Karine Kearney (Amelia, Alexa, Keaton); Laura Ann and Patrick Tuck, Colin and Krystle Sheehan; Megan and Braden Barnier (MacKenzie, Oakland, Evelyn, Ainsley, Presley), Walter and Jenny Vereecken (William), Theo (Rowena Zuniga) Vereecken; Graham (Lesley Taylor) Hart, Christian Hart and Andreas Hart.
Dear brother of Piet of the Netherlands, Joe of Bothwell, Joanne of London and Antione of Chatham. Predeceased by his sister Nic of The Netherlands.
Besides being a dedicated family man, Theo was a very proud, hard working farmer and successful business man.
Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown on Wednesday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Parish Prayers will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at St. Michael's Church, 26 George Street, Ridgetown with Fr. Mariaraj Irudayam celebrant. A Private Family Entombment will be held at St. Peter's Mausoleum in London.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society or the Salvation Army (Food Bank) would be appreicated.
