Obituary of Gerald Joseph Lucier
LUCIER:Gerald Joseph - March 3rd, 1936 - February 25th, 2016
A lifelong resident and farmer in the St. Luke’s Bay area, and Navistar International retiree, Gerald passed away peacefully, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer on February 25th 2016.
Born March 3rd, 1936 in the former Dover Township, Gerald is the son of the late Dan and Arvella (Tetrault) Lucier .
Beloved husband of 60 years to Inez Lucier (nee Johnston).
Loving father to his children, daughter Deborah and husband Jan Nissen of North Buxton and son Gerald Joseph “Joe” Lucier and wife Leanne Perry of Windsor.
Sadly missed by his sidekick and faithful companion “Princess Sassy”.
Proud Grandpa/Pepe to Christopher, Timothy, Carrie, Skylar and Eliza, and great-grandpa to Aleksander, Jace, Holly, Michael and Audrey.
Survived by a brother Romeo Lucier and his wife, Mary (Blondeel), sisters Jeanette Bechard (late Raymond Bechard), Joanne Anderson (late James “Jim” Anderson), and Barbara Johnston. Predeceased by a brother Jerome (Gloria ).
Son-in-law to the late Joseph and Jeanette Lorraine “Tootsie” (Jubenville) Johnston and brother-in-law to Norma Johnston (late Carl Johnston), Pete and Marilyn Johnston, Shirley and Gerard Bechard, and Wayne Johnston and his friend Anna.
His wacky sense of humor, will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.
Gerald was a member of the St. Philippe’s Usher’s Club of Grande Pointe for more than 4 decades. His lifelong passions were fishing and racing stock cars at Ridge Raceway and South Buxton Speedway until the early 70’s when an injury ended his racing.
A special thank you to the incredibly patient nurses and staff of 4th Floor Medical “A” section of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, for being so kind and helpful to his whole family.
Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Wednesday, March 2nd from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Vigil Prayers will be held Wednesday at 6:45pm.
On March 3rd 2016, viewing will also be available at the Funeral Home at 10:00 am until the Celebration of his Life at 11:00 am with Father John Sharp officiating.
A luncheon will follow.
Cremation is to follow with a private family ceremony at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Gerald would like charitable donations made to Rat Terrier Rescue Canada Inc, who rescued his companion “Princess” and his previous dog Sweetie.
