Obituary of Muriel Mae Derby

Derby, Muriel Mae (nee MacDormand) passed away peacefully on March 8, 2016 at the Village on the Ridge, Ridgetown, Ontario. Born to Nellie and Harry MacDormand on August 4, 1919 on Brier Island, Nova Scotia, she was predeceased by husband, Rev. Lloyd G. Derby, July 21, 1977. Loving mother to daughter Karen Lee Cragg (late Michael), Ridgetown, Ontario, daughter Stephanie Lynn Thibaudeau (Scott), Spring, Texas, and son Eric George Cameron Derby (Mary), Sterling, Virginia. Loving grandmother to Renee Linden (Robert), Tyson Cragg (Stacey), Brett Cragg (Katie), Shaun Derby (Mindy), Ryan Derby (Kimberly), and Mark Derby. Great-grandmother to Adam, Cameron, Cassandra, Trevor, Caleb, Archer, Russell and Spencer. Muriel was predeceased by five sisters and two brothers. She is survived by one brother, Robert G. MacDormand of Brier Island, Nova Scotia. Muriel thoroughly enjoyed being a Minister’s wife and was faithful to her church community. She enjoyed her crossword puzzles and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She had a full life for 96 years and was a wonderful, dear lady and was loved by all of her family and friends. She will be sadly missed. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is planned for April 16th at 3:00 p.m. at McKinlay Funeral Home 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham, Ontario. Reception following service at the Reception Centre. Donations in memory of Muriel can be made to Sprucedale United Church, Chatham, Ontario or charity of your choice.
