Obituary of Murray Campbell
CAMPBELL: Murray-
A lifelong resident of Harwich Township, and winter resident of Arizona, Murray Campbell passed away at Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa, Arizona after a brief illness on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the age of 80.
Born in Harwich Township, Murray was the son of the late John and Viola (Countryman) Campbell.
Beloved husband to Joanne Campbell (nee Brodie).
Devoted father of Scott Campbell, Craig Campbell (Karen) and Sheila Campbell-Van Boxtel (Herman Van Boxtel) all of Harwich Township.
Proud grandfather of Brodie Van Boxtel, Jordan Campbell, Paige Glasier, Mc Kayla and Al Lana Van Boxtel, Taran Campbell, Hunter Glasier and Kennedy Glasier.
Survived by his sisters and brother Helen Coyle (Gordon), John Campbell (Laverna) and Maxine Paxton (Don).
Brother-in-law to Gayle Campbell (Jim Brodie).
Predeceased by his siblings Leo Campbell (Eunice), Marion Hutchison (Douglas), Gladys Lawrence (James), Lyle Campbell (Doris) and Allan Campbell.
Also missed by his in-laws Don Brodie (Joan) of Brucefield, Robert Brodie (Deborah) of Blenheim and Ralph Brodie (Phyllis) of Chatham as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Murray farmed his entire life in Harwich Township and was very involved in his community. He was a Volunteer Firefighter for the North Harwich Fire Department; Reeve of Harwich; Warden of Kent County in 1977; Board Member on the Public General Hospital Board; Director of the St. Clair College (Windsor and Chatham); Board member of the Children's Treatment Centre; Member of the Farm Debt Review Board; Board Member of the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority; involved with BFI Land Fill becoming a reality; Board Member of the 1979 International Plowing Match; Member of the South Western Ontario Travel Association; Secretary Treasurer of the Kent County Past Wardens Association.
Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016. Cremation to follow.
Donations made in memory of Murray to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or Chatham-Kent Hospice would be appreciated.
