VERSCHELDEN: Lena A resident of Chatham, and formerly of Pembroke, Lena Verschelden passed away with her family at her side at Riverview Gardens in Chatham on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the age of 92. Born in The Netherlands, Lena married Daniel Verschelden and emigrated to Chatham with their first four children in 1954. Lena and Daniel shared 59 years together until he predeceased her 2006. Loving mother of Marianne Thompson (Douglas) of Kingston, Beth Fox (Peter) of Chatham, Liddy Krieger (Dennis) of Chatham, Maddy Asselstine (Roy) of Peterborough, Theresa Foley (Hugh) of Peterborough, Rose Marie Culleton (late Tim) of Kingston and Henry Verschelden (Kathleen) of Pembroke. Proud Oma of 12 grandchildren and great-Oma of 11 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Fr. Edward Van den Berge of The Netherlands. Lena and Daniel were both members of the Cursillo Movement at Blessed Sacrament Church in Chatham as well as the 3rd Order of St. Francis in Blenheim. She was the owner of the Wool and Baby Boutique in Pembroke for over 20 years, before returning to Chatham for retirement. As per Lena's wishes, cremation has taken place with a private family service to be held at a later date. Donations made in memory of Lena to the C.N.I.B. would be appreciated.
