MCDONELL: Paul Vincent
1940-2016
Peacefully on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of 50 years to Margo McDonell (Buhlman), a father much cherished by sons Christopher of Callander and Scott of Toronto and greatly admired by daughters-in-law Barb Boland and Diane Yano. Loving grandfather and master craftsman to Ian and Kara McDonell. A special brother to sisters Jane (IBVM) of Roches Point, Anne Marie (Phil Little) of Saltair, British Columbia, Patricia, and Michele both of Toronto.
Brother-in-law to Suzanne Brown (Ken) of London and Francine Kozlowski (Richard) of Royal Oak, Michigan. Paul will be missed by nieces and nephews Kelly Monson (Gary), Keri and Sean Brown, Todd Kozlowski, Patricia Nixon (Michael), Robert and Naomi Little. He found much joy as great uncle to Emma, Sarah, Megan and Charlie. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Patricia.
Born in Toronto, Paul graduated from the University of Toronto in 1962. He began his teaching career at Etobicoke Collegiate in Toronto, before moving to Chatham in 1968. He was a passionate teacher of English at Chatham Kent, John McGregor, Blenheim and Chatham Collegiate, retiring in 1996.
Paul pursued many interests with great enthusiasm into retirement as a builder of model airplanes, a stamp collector, wood worker, gardener, curler and golfer.
He was a long-time Rotary Club of Chatham member and Paul Harris Fellow, President of Kent County Stamp Club and a member of the Chatham Aeronauts.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Foundation of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance are welcome.
Visitation will be held at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Vigil Prayers will be held at 3:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church, 145 Victoria Ave, Chatham at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2016 with Fr. John Sharp celebrant.
