Obituary of Janina 'Jenny' Tomaszewski
TOMASZEWSKI: Janina "Jenny" (Obuchowicz) -
One voyage ends. A new one begins. Janina (Jenny) Tomaszewski begins her eternal life on June 28, 2016. Our mother, babcia and friend to many left her native Poland in 1940 as a war refugee, to Siberia, India, Uganda and eventually to Chatham, Ontario. Jenny was born in Grodno, Poland on August 5, 1932 to the late Jadwiga and Dominik Obuchowicz, and now joins her beloved Henry (2005), sisters Emilia (2001), Viktoria (2004) and Anna (1943). Survived by brother Kazimierz Obuchowicz of Montreal and family in Poland. Loved by her children and family, Barbara (David) Campbell of Kanata, Walter Tomaszewski and Sharon Kean of Chatham, Julie (Gary) Kennedy of Belle River, Helen (Eric) Robertson of Chatham, Henry (Kathy) Tomaszewski of Ailsa Craig, Susan Molloy and Mark Haladyn of London, Richard (Gina) Tomaszewski of London, and Marian Waterhouse and Michael Ferencz of St. Thomas. Sister-in- law to John Tomaszewski of Mississauga and his dear family.
There are numerous nephews and nieces, 32 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several close friends who will miss her dearly. Jenny was known as the ‘Cake Lady’ in local circles, a Red Cross Homemaker, a second mother to many, and a superb ‘Domestic Engineer’. She was also a charter member of Our Lady of Victory Parish and Ladies’ Altar Society (1957), a member of the Polish Canadian Club (1949) and a Gold Card member of Branch 28/642 of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary. Thanks to the staff at the Chatham Retirement Resort, the CKHA, and the CK Hospice for their excellent support. Visitation is at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham, Thursday, June 30th, 2016 from 2:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m., with Parish prayers at 6:30 p.m. and a Legion Auxiliary Service at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church, 490 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Bogdan Molenda celebrant. Burial to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Chatham. Donations to Our Lady of Victory Church or the Chatham-Kent Hospice would be appreciated.
