Obituary of Gerald Frederick 'Gerry' Makey

MAKEY: Gerald Frederick 'Gerry' - A resident of Wallaceburg, and formerly of Chatham and Ridgetown, Gerald Makey passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the age of 74. Born in Morpeth, Gerald was the son of the late Douglas and Marjorie (Barker) Makey. Beloved husband of the late Betty (Simpson) (1991) and the late Lois (Wilbur) (2009). Loving father of Judie Kelley (Paul) of Chatham, the late Evan Makey (1987) and Deanna Richardson (Tim) of Comber. Step-father of Tim McLean and Tammy McLean, both of Chatham Proud grandfather of Amanda Nixon (Joe), the late Joshua Doxtater (2006); Laura Richardson (Nicole), Lacey Richardson (Adam); Shae Lynn McLean, Drew McLean; Charli McLean (Eren), Mitchell McLean and Dakota Stewart. Great-grandfather of Miranda, Aurora, Hailey, Rylie, Cole and Casy. Predeceased by his brothers Robert Makey and Ronald Makey. Special uncle to Cassie and Shayne Wilbur. Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Gerald retired as a Kent County Roads Supervisor after 37 years of service. He thoroughly enjoyed camping with his family and friends and also liked hunting. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 with Rick Badder officiating. Interment to follow at Morpeth Cemetery. Donations made in memory of Gerald to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
