Obituary of William 'Lorne' Cummings

CUMMINGS: William "Lorne" - Lorne passed away peacefully on Friday, October 21, 2016, at Riverview Gardens, Chatham, ON, in his 84th year. Beloved husband of 57 years to the late Mary 'Eleanor' Cummings (nee Reid) (May, 2016). Father of Joanne (Cummings) and Tom Perrin of Dorchester, Doug and Beth (Horne) Cummings of Chatham and Bill and Karen (Van Kesteren) Cummings of Paris. Proud grandfather of Matthew, Cameron and Tyler of Chatham and Katie, Joel, Kimmy and Kelly of Paris. Lorne was predeceased by his parents William (1935) and Vera (1995) Cummings (nee Laidman), sister Erma (1933) and brother Clare (2007). Brother-in-law to Helen Stubbs (late Jack), Keith Reid (Janet), and the late Lorraine Reid. Born and raised in Haldimand County and attended both Caledonia and Hagersville highschools. Employed in Hamilton with Norton Grinding Wheel Co. and in Chatham with Union Gas for over 30 years, retiring in 1995. In retirement years, Lorne enjoyed golf and service work, being a charter member of Kiwanis Golden K. He was also a former elder at St. Andrew's United Church. Visitation will be held at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 with Rev. Mark Perry officiating. Cremation to take place with a private family interment to be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to St. Andrew's United Church or a charity of your choice.
