Obituary of James W. Greenway
It is with sad hearts that the family of James W. (Jim) Greenway, announce his passing on Nov. 23, 2016 surrounded by the love of his family at the Chatham-Kent Hospice.
Surviving Jim is his loving wife, Pat (nee Haney) of 51 years and his two daughters, Dawn (Leon) Brooks and Heather (Ray) Johnston, and their families. Jim was a proud and loving grandfather to his four grandchildren; Matthew and Garrett Randle and Erika and Nicole Johnston, encouraging each one as needed and sharing a special joy with each of their accomplishments along the way.
Jim is survived by his two sisters, Patricia Greenway and Linda Greenway, both of Chatham, with whom Jim loved to plan day excursions always ending at one of his favorite restaurants. Also, his brother-in-law Wayne Grieve, and family, of Bright, ON, with whom we have shared so many special visits.
Also mourning Jim's loss are Bob & Janice Brearley, Pat's sister, with whom we enjoyed our trips to the Sight & Sound Theatre to see the Biblical Stories in real life - a real thrill for all of us.
Predeceasing Jim are his parents, the late J. Walter & Dorothy (nee McIntyre) Greenway of Ridgetown, his brother William Edward "Ted" Greenway and his wife Alice (nee Forsten), and his youngest sister Louvina (Wayne) Grieve.
Jim enjoyed a wonderful 35 year career as a teacher and Principal with the Chatham-Kent School Board. He thoroughly loved his career in education and is described by former students as the approachable and fair teacher/Principal focused on what would be the best for each student.
Following retirement, Jim volunteered for 11 years with the Community Care Access/C-K CCAC/Erie St. Clair Boards enjoying the many challenges of working with so many others to keep the best quality of home care for the residents of our area.
Jim's wishes were to exit from this world in the same way in which he lived in the world - quietly with no fuss except to be remembered by his family.
In keeping with Jim's wishes, his family will celebrate his life in a Private Service followed by a burial of the Urn at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
Anyone wishing to honor Jim's life with a memorial donation are asked to consider the Chatham-Kent Hospice where Jim and his family received such wonderful and loving care through the final days of his earthly life.
All arrangements are entrusted to McKinlay Funeral Homes.
