Obituary of Eileen Newton

NEWTON: Eileen (Truswell) - A resident of Chatham, Eileen Newton passed away at Riverview Gardens with family at her side on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the age of 94. Born in Tibshelf, Derbyshire, UK, Eileen was the eldest daughter of the late Harry and Nellie (Smith) Truswell. Survived by her younger brother Harry Truswell (Pat) of the UK. Predeceased by her sister Blanche Lowe (late Horace). Loving mother of Deborah 'Deb' Anne Rhodes (Leigh) of Chatham and Laura Polak (George) of Toronto. Proud grandmother of Stephanie Eileen Bellamy (Jeff) of Chatham, Stephanie Leigh Rhodes (Kelly Portingale) of Red Deer, AB, and Adam Rhodes of Windsor. Great-grandmother of Taylor Bellamy, Nicholas Bellamy and Stevie Bea Portingale. Eileen was lovingly known as 'Nana Newton' to all of her family and friends. Eileen assisted in Red Cross efforts during World War II. She was a member of the I.O.D.E. and the Eastern Star and a longstanding member of St. Paul's Anglican Church. Eileen will be remembered for being a devoted mother and grandmother. She foremost enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as baking, knitting and crocheting for them. She was a very loving, kind, selfless person who will be dearly missed. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. Cremation to follow. Donations made in memory of Eileen to the V.O.N. Chatham-Kent and the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
