Obituary of Lenard Lahey

Lahey, Lenard - passed away in his 86th year, on Thursday January 5, 2017. Lenard was the devoted husband of the late Marie Margeurite Lahey for 63 years. Dear father of Morris (Elizabeth) Lahey of Sombra, Brian (Susan) Lahey of Chatham, Lorraine (Jack) Pyle of Virgil, Michael (Tammy Randall) Lahey of Merlin and Sharron Lahey of Brooklyn New York. Loving and supportive Grandfather to Patrick, Steven, Jenna, Kara, Christine, Aidan, Aaron and Ciara. Brother-in-law to Veronica (Bernard) Girard and Anita Mallett. Lenard was predeceased by his parents Michael Leo and Mary (Rice) his daughter Caroline, sister Mary Rose (Sid Holstein), brother George (Mary) Lahey, brother-in-law Eddie (Lorraine) Faubert. Lenard was Marg's best friend, fellow gardener and traveller. Together they put family first, enjoying many visits near and far. Lenard worked at Union Gas for 36 years, developing friendships along the way. He found a crew that enjoyed cards, as much as he, and also he and Marg were frequent attendees at the Union Gas dances. An active and faithful member of the St. Patrick's Parish, he was very proud of he and Marg's work on the Rosary Trail and keeping the parish in his community. In Merlin, Lenard was involved in community sports and coached many Merlin Kinsmen baseball teams to glory. He was a Founding Member of the Blenheim Golden Blades. A special thank-you to John McMahon who became a great friend and encourager for Lenard. The family appreciated all of the kind neighbours who shovelled snow, baked cookies and pies and kept an eye on Lenard. Visitation will be held at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 141 Park St., Blenheim on Tuesday January 10th, 2017 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, Parish Prayers will be shared at 8pm. A Memorial Mass for Lenard will be Celebrated by Father Francis at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Merlin on Wednesday January 11th, at 11am. Interment will be held in the St. Patrick's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lenard to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
