Obituary of Irene Lillian Volkes
Irene Lillian Volkes of Chatham passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 in her 93rd year.
Beloved wife of the late John Volkes (1996) & daughter of the late Gertude & Henry German.
Dear mother of Michael (Roberta) of Chatham, Rosemary Grover of Tiverton, Patsy Stratford (Brian Drummond) of Chatham, Peter (Janet) of Erin, Greg Volkes of Chatham & Barbara (Dennis) Loyer of Chatham.
Cherished grandchildren, Scott, Jenny, Susy, Tom, Tim, Rebecca, Peter, Carly & Kyle.
Great-grandmother of Jax, Rhys, Kaden, Kolton, Chase, Avery, Michael, Jason, Layne, Zander, Samantha, Alisha, Ryan, Alex, Brooke, Jacob & Jackson.
Survived by brother Harvey (Ruth) German of Chatham, sister, Margaret MacLennan of Winnipeg, brother Gary (Barb) German of Chatham, & brother-in-law Clifford Jackson of Chatham.
Predeceased by infant brother, Harley, sisters, Audrey Jackson & Ellen Chapman., brother-in-law, Lloyd Chapman, brother-in-law, Fred (Elsie) Volkes, son-in-law Robert Grover & niece, Kari-Ann Diamanti.
Also survived by many nieces, nephews & friends.
Special thanks to the staff at St. Andrew's Residence & staff at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Medicine floor for their compassionate care.
Irene worked for 40 years at Bell Canada, lifetime member of Women of the Moose, of St. Joseph's Auxiliary & of the ACW.
Family to receive friends on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Women of the Moose service will take place at 6:45 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday at Christ Church, 80 Wellington Street, Chatham at 2:00 p.m. with Venerable Paul Millward officiant. Cremation to take place with a private family interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery at a later date.
