Obituary of Donna Irene Bernard

BERNARD: Donna Irene (nee Rodgers) -

A resident of Chatham, Donna Bernard passed away at the Chatham-Kent Hospice with her family at her side on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the age of 89.

Born in St. Thomas, Donna was the daughter of the late Roy and Irene (Bronson) Rodgers.

Beloved wife of the late Wilfred (2007).

Loving mother of Leonard and Jackie Bernard of Dresden, Shirley and George Pappas of Chatham and the late David Bernard (2016).

Proud grandmother to Tanya Boock, Brady Bernard, Perry Pappas (Megan), Lea Jamieson (Rob) and Tony Pappas (Jodi). Step-grandmother to Leslie Boswell, Tim Boock, Karen Demetriou (Eric) and Mike Boock (Teresa).

Great-grandmother to Naya, Aaliyah, Donovan, Tyson, Ashton, Blake, Josselyn, Eva, Kira, Krista and Will.

Predeceased by her siblings Donald 'Bud' Rodgers (1971), Betty Rodgers (1939) and Robert Rodgers (2009).

Special friend to Susan Baker (Dave) of Shrewsbury. Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends, extended family and her community at Chatham Retirement Resort.

Donna was a proud business owner and looked after her clients like they were her own family. She was very devoted to her family and her church. She loved all activities that gathered people together, to share laughter and family stories and was always ready to help when needed. She will be greatly missed.

Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Sunday June 11, 2017 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. Vigil Prayers will be held Sunday at 3:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church, 145 Victoria Ave, Chatham at 10:00 am on Monday, June 12, 2017 with Fr. Jim Higgins celebrant. Cremation to follow with a private family interment to be held at St. Anthony Cemetery, Chatham at a later date. Special thanks to the staff and volunteers at the Chatham-Kent Hospice for their care and compassion. They will never be forgotten.
