Obituary of Andrew Dorssers

Dorssers, Andrew - of Blenheim, passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Friday September 22, 2017, age 89. Son of the late Leonardus Dorssers and Wilhelmina vanderKerkoff. Dear husband of Ann Dorssers (nee Heuvelmans) for 61 years. Dear father of Cathy (Peter Blanchard) Dorssers of Melbourne, Leon (Pamela) Dorssers of Blenheim, John-Peter (Lori) Dorssers of Blenheim, Gina (Jim) Kolkman of Delaware, Jeff (Toni) Dorssers of Blenheim, and the late infant son Peter.

Grandfather of Erica MacFarlane, Rachel MacFarlane, Drew (Angele) Dorssers, Heather (Jeremy) Vlasschaert, Lee Dorssers, Colin Dorssers, Kayley Dorssers, Kaysey Dorssers, Shawna Kolkman (Matt Ingrey), Jamie Kolkman, Zakeri Dorssers, and Hannah Dorssers.

Great-Grandfather of Evelyn Dorssers.

Brother of the late Lisa Dorssers, the late Nel (late John) Timmermans, late Ness (late Wim) Verdellen, late Marie (late Peter) Joosten, late Grada (late Ben) Luiking, late Anne (late Theo) vanVugt, Jet (late Toen) Haenen, Wilma (Gerry) Willemsen, Christine (late Jack) vanHaren, Dora (late Bill) vandenberg, late Cor (Joanne) Dorssers, late Tony (late Siham) Dorssers, Hank (late Joanne) Dorssers, and Bill (Mary) Dorssers.

Brother-in-law of late Angela (Martin) vanRaay, late Els (late Eppie) vanderMolen, Theresa (Cor) Ermers, Mary (late Harry) vanderBurg, Cathy (late Jude) Denomy, Chris (Phyllis) Heuvelmans, Theo (Annie) Heuvelmans, Gerard Heuvelmans, John (Lorraine) Heuvelmans, and Leo (Carol) Heuvelmans.

Will be missed by several nieces and nephews.

Andrew was born in the Helden the Netherlands in 1928. At 16 he was forced during World War II to dig trenches in Germany. He served in the military service of the Netherlands, and was sent to Indonesia to serve from 1948-1950. In 1950 he immigrated to Canada with four of his siblings to start a new life for his family soon to follow him. After a multiple wedding ceremony in 1956 with four of his sisters and one brother he settled with Ann in Winchester in the Ottawa Valley to farm and started their young family. Returning to Blenheim in 1968 where he farmed until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and belonged to the Retired Gentleman Farmers Card Club.

Visitation will be held at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 141 Park St. Blenheim, Ontario, on Monday September 25, 2017 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Parish Prayers and a Knights of Columbus Service will be shared at 6:45pm. The Funeral Mass for Andrew will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 95 Marlborough St. Blenheim, on Tuesday September 26, at 11am. Cremation to follow with a private family burial in Evergreen Cemetery to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Andrew may be made to Cancer Care Ontario or the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation.
