Obituary of Johan 'Jeff' Coolen

COOLEN: Johan Joseph (Jeff) -

A resident of Chatham-Kent, Jeff Coolen passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Riverview Gardens on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the age of 80.

Born in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, Jeff was the son of the late Adrian and Wilhelmina (Garenfeld) Coolen.

Beloved husband of 37 years to the late Jean (nee Antuma) (2009) and 11 years to the late Alida (nee Guldemeester) (1971).

Loving father of Andrew Coolen (Nancy) of Toronto, Derek Coolen of Toronto, the late Marlene Coolen (2018) (late Jeff Archer, 2017) of Sarnia, Jeff Coolen (Marianne) of Wellandport, Mark Coolen (Nicole) of St. Thomas and Shawn Coolen (Julie) of Chatham.

Proud Opa and Great-Opa to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by his brother Harry Coolen and his sister Anne VandenTillaart.

Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends, extended family as well as his church family.

Jeff was the owner/operator of Jeff Coolen Painting and Decorating with his wife Jean for many years. In his free time, Jeff enjoyed painting, exercise and spending time outdoors hiking and bird watching. He was a member of the Laudate Dominum Choir and participated as a bass soloist. Jeff was also an avid harmonica player. When he was healthy, Jeff would spend any opportunity he could with his grandchildren. Overall, Jeff's love for the Lord was evident in the way he lived his life.

Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Living Hope Free Reformed Church, 159 Gregory Drive East, Chatham at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 21, 2018 with Rev. Tim Bergsma officiating. Interment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.
