Obituary of Ross Button

A resident of Chatham, formerly of Charing Cross, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Riverview Gardens Nursing Home in his 93rd year. 

Born March 4, 1925, Ross was the son of the late Rev. John Button & Ida (nee Marshall) and step-son of the late Bertha (nee Pyke).

Loving husband for 69 beautiful years to Ruth (nee Houston). 

Devoted father of Brenda (Bryce) Dagg of Elora, Stuart (Jane Lovell) Button of Picton, Cheryl (Robert) Kirk, Karen (David) Walker, Richard (Christine) Button, all of Wallaceburg. 

Grandfather of Alison (Jeff) Negrave, Jennifer Dagg, Melanie (Scott) Kirk-Hall, Laura (Justin Adams) Kirk, Matthew Kirk, Erin Walker, Denise (Christopher) Perkins, Kristin (Brendan Howarth) Walker, Emily (Brennan Wadsworth) Button & Madeline Button. 

Great-grandfather of Graham, Lucas and Ben Negrave & Ava Perkins. 

Survived by sister-in-law, Margery McMullan and many nieces & nephews.

Predeceased by his siblings & their spouses, Thelma (Don) Waddell, Helen (Everitt) Lynn, Ida May (Don) Simpson, Harvey (Evelyn) Button, Dr. James (Nancy) Button, Doris (Lyle) Campbell, sister-in-laws, Margaret (Bill) Sifton and brother-in-laws, John (Nessie) Houston, Andrew (Eleanor) Houston, Robert (Marilyn) Houston and Norman McMullan.

Ross was born in Florence and moved to Putnam and Fordwich before settling in Charing Cross. He attended secondary school in Blenheim before serving time in the Royal Canadian Airforce. Ross worked with National Grocers for 38 years before retirement, continuing to work with Crawford Motors part-time. He was an active member of Charing Cross United Church, having served as Tyro leader, Sunday School Superintendent and being on the Session and Board of Stewards. Ross' priority in life was his family and enjoyed helping with many home renovations along with gardening, fishing, camping, travelling & shuffleboard. 

Family to receive friends on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at McKinlay Funeral Home,  459 St. Clair Street, Chatham. A Memorial Service for Ross will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday at the Funeral Home. Private Family Interment to take place in Maple Leaf Mausoleum. 

In memory of Ross, donations may be made to the Charing Cross United Church or to Riverview Gardens Nursing Home.
