Obituary of Mildred O'Brien
O'Brien, Mildred Ann "Cookie" (nee LaMarsh)
Cookie passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the CKHA-Chatham Campus at the age of 72.
Cookie was born in Chatham and was the daughter of the late Roy & Elizabeth LaMarsh.
She shared her life with the late Edward Cook (1993), raising their two children. She later remarried and is the beloved wife of 27 years to Peter O'Brien of Chatham.
Loving mother of Debbie Sturba of Windsor & Darrin and Carroll Cook of Chatham. Step-mother to Todd O'Brien.
Sadly missed by grandchildren, Madison Ann Sturba, Mitchell Sturba, Devon Cook & Dylan Cook.
Dear sister of Linda VanDeKerckhove, Delmer LaMarsh & Leonard LaMarsh. Predeceased by her siblings, Bernice Doughty, Don LaMarsh & Bonnie Robbins.
Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Cookie's greatest joy in her life was her grandkids & being there for others. She loved her country music, especially her Johnny Reid, Zac Brown Band & Luke Bryan. She was an avid member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 642. She was always on the go, being described as that shining star who brightened each and everybody's day that she came across. She could often be found sitting at the slot machines at Windsor Casino, discussing her political views. Cookie's time on earth was taken much too soon and she will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 pm & 7:00-9:00 pm at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham. Vigil Prayers will be held Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will take place at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 52 Croydon Street, Chatham on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., with Fr. Jim Higgins, Celebrant. Burial to follow in Maple Leaf Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Cookie to the Lung Association or to the Lower Thames Conservation Authority would be appreciated.
