A resident of Ridgetown, and formerly of Barrie, Laurie Dowthwaite passed away at Windsor Regional Hospital - Ouellette Campus on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the age of 81.

Born in Belleville, Laurie was the son of the late James "Jimmy" and Doris (Winterbottom) Dowthwaite.

Beloved husband of 49 years to Janice Dowthwaite (nee Johns).

Loving father of James Dowthwaite of Calgary.

Predeceased by his brother Jon Dowthwaite (late Eleanor).

Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Before joining the OPP, Laurie had worked at General Electric for several years in which time he served on the OPP Auxiliary. Laurie retired as a Senior Constable and the Community Service Officer with the OPP after 23 years of service. He was the first to be recognized as the "Police Officer of the Year" in 1991.

Laurie had been active in both the Trinity Anglican Church in Barrie and the Church of the Advent in Ridgetown throughout the years. After his retirement, he became a Lay Reader and served in that position for several years. Laurie was a member and Past Vice President of Kiwanis Club of Ridgetown and the Past President of the Optimist Club.

Laurie enjoyed travelling and going to the theatre with Janice. He loved going to the "office" at Tim Horton's and discussing all of the world's problems with his cronies.
