G. Norman Lachapelle

Obituary of G. Norman Lachapelle

LACHAPELLE, Norman Gerard - When the Father says “Come home” and open wide the door, we are sad because we cannot see our loved ones anymore. Yet we know, beyond that door, they are in a glorious place. Where everything is perfect, where they see our Father and brother Jesus, but He will send His spirit down to soothe each grieving heart until we join our loved ones.

He is home at last… No more pain or sorrow.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dad, G. Norman Lachapelle, on Monday, November 19th, 2018. Born in Chatham in 1951, one of 4 children. Predeceased by loving parents John and Angeline (Béchard). Beloved husband of Linda (Couture) of Chatham.  Norman was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree Council 9693 and a member of the Father James Assembly of the 4th Degree. Devoted 31 years of service to the Ontario Provincial Police in the Communications Unit, stationed in Chatham.

Employed as an Educational Assistant with the CSCProvidence for 3 years.  Volunteered for several years with Meals on Wheels and very much involved with Riverview Gardens Nursing Home, most notably member of the Family and Friends Council, where he could be the voice for his friends who could not speak for themselves. In 1988, Norm and Linda became members of the Cursillo Movement.  Genealogy has always been a great passion of his, as he frequently shared his historical knowledge with family and friends. Dad was great asset as a board member of the cemetery committee of Cimetière Immaculée Conception, Pain Court.

Norm will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Marc and Ginette (Trudell) of Tilbury, Michel and Tara (Ross) of Tilbury, and Martin of Chatham. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Tessa, Noah and Amélie.  Dear brother of Raymond and his wife Carmen (Moccia) of Chatham and Christine and her husband Kevin O’Reilly of Ottawa. Predeceased by brother Maurice (1980) and sister in law Ada (1965). Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. He was a Minister of the Word and Eucharistic Minister “de la Communauté paroissale de l’Immaculée Conception”, in Pain Court.  His positive outlook on life and his generosity of his time will be a legacy to us all.  “A father is someone who gives you the necessities to build your life, the knowledge you need to use them effectively, the encouragement to overcome obstacles and the pride in a job well done - unknown.”  Well done dad, we love you.
