Uniac, Francis “Frank”
A longtime resident of Chatham, Francis “Frank” Uniac passed away in the early morning of Wednesday, February 6, 2019 in his 94th year.
Born in Woodstock on May 9, 1925, and raised in Stratford, Frank was the son of the late William & Mary J (nee Longeway) Uniac.
Beloved husband and best friend of 56 years to the late Mary Uniac (nee Clapp, 2010).
Predeceased by his brothers, James Uniac, Kenneth Uniac, Leo Uniac, Glen Uniac, and brother-in-laws, Lloyd Clapp & Blake Clapp.
Forever missed by his sister-in-laws, Shirley Uniac, Diane Uniac, Patricia Uniac (deceased), Connie Templeton, and by many nieces and nephews. As well as by Mary’s family, Eleanore Hulland & Dr. Thomas Hulland (deceased) of Guelph, John Clapp of Ottawa.
Frank will be deeply missed by dear friends and neighbors Mike, Betty, Steven, Kate, and Megan Peach.
Frank relocated to Chatham to play hockey for the Maroons in 1949. After his playing career, he was eager to share his love of the game with Chatham youth. In 1951, he was a founding member of Chatham Minor Hockey. He later became president and for his support and efforts was appointed a life member of the association. For 17 years, Frank refereed in the CMHA, the OMHA, the OHA and the IHL. Frank became involved with the formation and as a Director, of the Chatham Maroon Alumni.
Frank was also instrumental in the successes of Chatham Minor Baseball in the 1950s, as a bench manager and chair of the program.
Frank began his career in the office of International Harvester (Navistar) in 1949. Working as a supervisor for 31 years, Frank was a highly respected leader among his colleagues.
In 1954, he married the love of his life, Mary, and together they shared many beautiful memories. Throughout their lives, Mary and Frank were active supporters of many organizations within Chatham-Kent. Frank continued this support in Mary’s memory after her passing.

Cremation has taken place. Interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery and a Private Celebration of Life to be confirmed at a later date.
