Meurkes, Henry E.

Henry passed away peacefully with his family by his side at LHSC-Victoria Hospital on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at the age of 89.

Henry was born in Holland on July 26, 1929 and was the son of the late Adolf and Elizabeth (Ketles) Meurkes.

Married on May 5, 1954 and was the beloved husband of Ann M. Meurkes of 64 years.

Loving father of Ed Meurkes (Pat), Diane Meurkes (Garry Desjardine), Cheryl St. Denis (Charlie) and Jim Meurkes (Dee).

Sadly missed by his grandchildren, Charlie Chappus (Natasha), Ken Chappus (Stephanie), Lisa Dokter (Lance Phillip), Gord St. Denis (Kimberley N Johnson), Amy Francis (Jason), and David Meurkes (Josie).

Great-Opa of Winston, Lucy, Opal, Violet, Clark, Henry, Desiree, Dakota, Declan and Daxton.

Predeceased by his 6 brothers and sisters.

After his normal retirement from Rockwell, Tilbury, he enjoyed being part of JDM Seed Services Mobile Seed Cleaning with his son, Jim for the past 26 years. He always looked forward to spring to start seed cleaning and visiting numerous friends and customers. He could often be found at Jim and Dee's car and dog washes and in the winter, sitting by the wood stove in the shop. He will miss his friends at McDonalds early in the morning and at the Legion for lunch. Henry enjoyed spending time with his family and was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very proud to share his name with his great-grandson, Henry.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Trauma Centre at the London Health Sciences Centre - Victoria Hospital where he received very special and compassionate care, and special thank you to Dr. Sherry Roszell for her care and expertise.

The family will receive friends at the McKinlay Reception Centre, 463 St. Clair Street, Chatham, on Friday April 26, 2019 from 3:00 - 7:00 pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at the Funeral Home at 7:30 pm. Those wishing to attend the Interment for Henry may meet at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Saturday at 9:30 am. Interment will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Merlin.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 642 - Building Fund would be appreciated.
