A lifetime resident of Chatham-Kent, Donald McGregor passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus with his family at his side on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at the age of 87.
Born in Chatham Township, Donald was the son of the late Wesley and Edith (Bond) McGregor.
Beloved husband of 48 years to the late Zulma (nee Martin) (2003). Cherished friend of Christine Pinsonneault.
Loving father of Marilyn Gutteridge (Doug) of Chatham, Ronald Wesley McGregor (Janice) of Dover Township, Mark Donald McGregor (Keri) of Pain Court and Anne-Marie Rumble (Rick) of Chatham.
Dear Grandpa to the late Christopher Gutteridge (2019), Cory Gutteridge (Lisa), Carolyn Stepniak (Derek); Rhonda Verleye (Steve), Jason McGregor (Melissa), Candice Bezaire (Adam), Nicholas McGregor; Taryn Van Hooren (Alex), Tiffany Blackburn (Steve); Lauren Buchanan (Kyle), Ryan Rumble (Diane) and Megan Rumble (Max).
Great-Grandpa to 18 adored great-grandchildren.
Dear brother to Minnie Walker (late Thomas). Predeceased by his sister Jean Spence (late Douglas) and brother Mack McGregor (late Marguerite).
Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Donald retired from the Chatham-Kent Fire Department as Deputy Chief in 1992 after 33 years of service. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Blessed Sacrament Parish, where he served as an Altar Server, Choir Member and a long-time member of the Building Committee.
Donald was a family man, a man of faith and an exemplary role model. Through his wisdom, values and work ethic he will be remembered by everyone whose lives he touched. In 2019, Donald's health took a turn and we would like to thank the Emergency Department, Medicine and Progressive Care Units for the endless care and compassion they showed.
Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 145 Victoria Ave, Chatham at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 8, 2019 with Fr. Peter Amszej celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Chatham.
