Daniel Rene Vandenbroere
A resident of Chatham and formerly of Belgium, Daniel Vandenbroere passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance - Chatham Campus on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the age of 88.
Born in Belgium, Daniel was the son of the late Cyriel and Valentina (nee Descamps) Vandenbroere.
Cherished husband of 58 years to the late Simonne (nee Dumortier) Vandenbroere (2012).
Dear father of Ron and Mary Anne Vandenbroere of Dealtown, Fred and Brenda Vandenbroere of Chatham, and Christine and Kevin Havens of Chatham.
Dear grandfather of Daniel and Jamie Vandenbroere, Jessica Vandenbroere and Kevin Van Olst, Giorgiana and Radu Vandenbroere; and Ryan and Brooke Havens. Dear great-grandfather of Maddison, Makayla, Melanie Vandenbroere and Dominica Le.
Brother of Madeline Duthouy, Maria Platteau, Georges Vandenbroere, and Margriet Couchez. Predeceased by his brothers, Frans & Andre Vandenbroere, all of Belgium.
Daniel immigrated in 1959 with his wife and two sons, with a dream to make Ontario his home.
Daniel was an avid member of the Active Lifestyle Centre and past member of the Kent Belgium Dutch Canadian Club. Music and dancing was a lifetime enjoyment for Daniel with his late wife, Simonne, and he continued to enjoy music & dancing until the end of his life.
He was a passionate finish carpenter for over 70 years and has passed that trade onto two of his sons. Daniel treasured his time with his daughter regularly on "Daddy Date Night" and enjoyed baking Lukken every Christmas with her.
Family to receive friends at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm & 7:00 - 9:00 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at the Funeral Home on Thursday at 11:00 am. Cremation to follow.
Donations in memory of Daniel to the Active Lifestyle Centre or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
