Obituary of Jean Geddis
Geddis: Elizabeth JEAN (Parsons) - of Ridgetown, passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Thursday, October 3, 2019, age 86. Born in McKay's Corners, to parents the late Stuart and Grace (Cudmore) Parsons.
Beloved wife of the late Tom (2019) for 65 years.
Beloved mother of Larry and wife Becky Geddis of Strathroy, and Cindy and husband Peri Makris of Kos Greece.
Grandmother of Josh (Jess Langan) Geddis, Brianne (Sean) Graham, Tasos Makris and Elizabeth Makris.
Great-grandmother of Nolan Geddis, Kyle Geddis, Alexis Graham, and Jordyn Geddis.
Sister to Janet (Fred) Squire of Thamesville, Margaret (Bill) French of Mitchell, Bonnie Verfaillie of Chatham, and sister-in-law to Jeannine Parsons of Chatham. Predeceased by her sisters Shirley Charbonneau, Evelyn Caryn, Mary Traylor and brother Bill Parsons.
Born a farmer's daughter, Jean went to Business School before working at London Life. She went on to help Tom run the family businesses, Geddis Plumbing and Buckslide Tent and Trailer Park on Lake Kushog in Carnarvon. She also helped run "Hegs Hub", Ridgetown's Saturday night hot spot, with her husband and other families.
Jean was a former member of the IODE and was a member of Marsh Street Baptist Church. She was an extraordinary knitter, a wonderful cook, baker and enjoyed crafts, puzzles and canning. She enjoyed volunteering her time with the breakfast program at St. Michael's School.
A Graveside Interment Service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Ridgetown, on Friday, October 11, 2019, at 1pm. A Celebration of Jean’s Life will follow at the Erie Street United Church, 7 Erie Street North, Ridgetown, from 2-4pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Greenwood Cemetery.
