Gough, Alfred Richard Hampton
Alfred passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the Chatham-Kent Hospice at the age of 98.
Alfred was born in Long Pools, England on January 26, 1921 and was the son of the late Alfred William and Ethel (Ward) Gough.
He immigrated to Canada in 1949.
Alfred was retired from the Ministry and Transportation Highway Division in 1981.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Alfred loved working in his garden and was a member of the American Rose Society, the Detroit Rose Society, the Canadian Rose Society and past director of the Chatham Horticultural Society.
Alfred was known through out Southwestern Ontario as an amateur horticulturalist and premier rose grower.
He was also known for his beautiful Rose and Dahlia gardens in Chatham.
He was a member and past master of Wellington Lodge # 46 Chatham.
Beloved husband of Mary Ilene (Close) Gough of Chatham and the late Ann (Hudson) Gough (1975).
Loving step-father of Clare and Gordon Young, John and Gladys Stuart and Tom and Cathy Stuart.
Sadly missed by grandchildren, Paul Young, Cam (Brandon) Stuart, Michael (Sanaa) Young, Andrea (Jay) Bursey, Danielle (Darcy) Faber and Jason Stuart and 7 great-grandchildren.
Survived by a sister-in -law Lula Robinson.
Predeceased by his twin sister, Winnifred Harrison, sister Barbara Peak, and brothers, Lewis and Maurice Gough.
A private family graveside interment will be held in Craford Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Monica from Bayshore for her excellent care of Alfred over the past year and to the Nurses and staff at Village on The Thames for all of their care and support.
Donations in memory of Alfred to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Chatham-Kent Hospice would be appreciated.
