Obituary of Cheryle Norris
Norris, Cheryle Elizabeth (nee Maine)
Cheryle passed away with her family at her side at the CKHA-Chatham Campus on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at the age of 74.
Cheryle was born in Chatham on August 1, 1945 and was the daughter of the late Gerald and Loretta (nee Eagen) Maine.
Beloved wife of the late Ray Norris (2011).
Loving mother of Kelli & Tony Johnson of St. Thomas, Paul & April Norris of Chatham, and Scott & Cathy Norris of Dover Centre.
Forever missed by her grandchildren, Delaney & Brady Johnson, Jordan and Craig Sparks, Nolan Smith, Sarah Smith-Norris, & Grace Norris, Avery & Maclean Norris and great-grandaughter Everleigh.
Dear sister of Donna & Jack McLeod, Mickie & Don Sans, Jack & Helen Maine, and Larry & LouAnne Maine all of Chatham.
Missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Cheryle began her long term teaching career in a one room school house before moving to Harwich Raleigh and then spending many years teaching Grade 1 and 2 at Indian Creek Road Public School until her retirement. Beyond her love for her students she was steadfast in her love for her family and devotion to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed being surrounded by her family, hosting holiday gatherings, special occasions and other celebrations.
She loved to shop and was known for her elaborate holiday decorating. There were no limits to her generosity and she was very giving towards her family and friends, those in need and her church. She was a lifelong avid reader who also enjoyed time spent talking on the phone with family and friends, Tuesday night cards, luncheons with the retired teachers and shopping trips to the States where she combined her love for shopping and time spent with extended family. Most of all she enjoyed spoiling others and having an endless supply of treats on hand for her grandchildren. Her thoughtful caring nature will be forever missed by her family and those who knew her.
In honour of Cheryle's request cremation has taken place followed by a private family service.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place on Sunday, December 1, 2019 from 1-4 pm at the McKinlay Funeral Home Reception Centre, 463 St. Clair Street, Chatham, ON.
Donations in memory of Cheryle to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
