Obituary of Ruth Lorraine Chittim

Ruth Lorraine Chittim (Nee Thomas). Ruth Chittim passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23rd, 2020 in her residence at Arbour Trails in Guelph. Prior to moving to be near family, she was a longtime farm lady from Pardoville. She is on her way to meet up with her devoted husband and navy veteran Bill, cherished and sorely missed daughter Virginia, and cottage companion Millie. The World’s Greatest Mom leaves behind her son Brock, daughter in-law Toni, and grand daughter Meg and her husband Jason. Ruth was predeceased by her father Herbert Thomas, mother Evelyn Braybrook (Nee Peel) and stepfather Joseph Braybrook. She is also predeceased by her brother Ken Thomas. Ruth is survived by her loving sister Judy (late Bob) Gammage, brother George (late Elsie) Thomas and sister-in-law Betty(late Ken)Thomas. She will also be terribly missed by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Of course, this includes the ‘Chittim Clan’. She regrets that she will miss the 94th Chittim Picnic this year. With her husband Bill, they built and managed three productive farms, raising cattle, and growing everything from strawberries to tobacco. Besides working on the farm, and being a loving mother and wife, Ruth was a devoted member and volunteer at Cedar Springs United Church, working side-by-side with her good friend Ethel Townsend. She was also a world traveller, accomplished flower gardener, casino contributor, almost good curler and sort of golfer. All in all, she had a very full life and deserves a good rest. The family would like to sincerely thank the care providers, nurses and staff at Arbour Trails who made sure that Ruth, even when she was grumpy, was well cared for. Arrangements and her care were entrusted to McKinlay Funeral Homes and was much appreciated. Following her wishes, cremation will take place with burial to follow some weeks later at Pardoville Cemetery. Donations in Ruth’s name to your local hospital, hospice or humane society would be appreciated. Online condolences may be left at www.mckinlayfuneralhome.com
